Day 22: Where I Work

As a domestic engineer, here is my office...

Can't believe we have been here for over a year! So much has changed! Pin It Now!

Day 21: A Favorite Photo of Me

When Ben and I were still dating we went up to New York to visit his family and friends. One day we went exploring and went to fawn's leap in the Catskills. Somehow I was talked into jumping the cliff but it was so much fun!

Day 20: Something I Ate

Dinner this evening was a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and Canadian bacon. Yum!

Day 19: Something I Hate To Do

I hate folding clothes.

I used to do the laundry then just pick clothes out of the clean pile so I never needed to put clothes away. I figure having a house and husband maybe I should be more responsible...but I still hate doing it!

Ugh! Such a big pile!

Exploring Arizona: Adventure Pt. 2

Over the next few days we did a few mini trips around the area. We went to Tombstone, Bisbee, and hiked on a trail on base.

Day 13: Blue

Even though it's to cold to use the outside pool, (I tried, I really did but honestly there is still some snow on the ground!) I still got my swim on at the indoor pool. I forgot how much I missed swimming.

Exploring Arizona: Adventure Pt. 1

On Saturday I woke up early and ready to go, excited to fly down to Phoenix. And then when I got to the airport, I saw this:
Prop-plane?? Really?!
So tiny!!
Thankfully, this was just the plane from Seattle to Portland. The flight from Portland to Phoenix had 3 seats on either side of the aisle, not just 1. :) I felt much more secure! On the 3 hour drive from the airport back to Sierra Vista we discussed our game plan for Sunday. We were ambitious and decided to go to the Grand Canyon, which is a 6ish hour drive from where we were staying. We woke up bring and early, ready to take on the day.
Pretty sunrise as we left for our road trip
Our view for half of the drive.
The first part of our road trip was to Montezuma Castle National Park in Camp Verde. It blows my mind to think how the Sinagua people were able to built a 20 room 'house' into the rocks without any sort of modern tools.
How awesome is that?!
A close up of the main living area.

They took these alcoves in the rock as a start building the home.
The area surrounding the house showed where they farmed and used the river for water, irrigation and food.
I found the bark on these trees to be so cool.
Our second stop was to Sedona. The houses there were AH-mazing and the views were breathtaking! We enjoyed the area so much that we added it to our list of potential places to retire (and yes, we have one of those already). These are pictures of the red rocks. The ones we saw from the highway were Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte.

Can you see the church in the rock? There were houses/buildings with some incredible views
On our way from Sedona to Flagstaff it started snowing. This was the beginning of a crazy storm that we did not know was coming!
We stopped in Flagstaff to grab some lunch and then heading out for the Grand Canyon! The roads were starting to blanket with snow as we went farther north. Thankfully pretty much everyone was driving surprisingly well. And then I thought we caught a break because the snow stopped and the sun came out.
Unfortunately, that was just a cruel tease of what could have been. Instead, when we got to the Grand Canyon it had started snowing again. Ugh. Since the sun was not out, we couldn't get a clear view of the canyon but we were able to get a glimpse of how vast it was.
Inside the park...we couldn't even see the roads.
We will definitely be going back (one day) when it is warmer so we can hike and camp.

Small glimpse of the canyon! So incredible!
car looking a little cold
The drive back was the biggest snow storm I can ever remember driving through. It took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to go about 50 miles. C-R-A-Z-Y!! But once we were outside of Phoenix, the temperature raised from 22 degrees to 54 degrees, so we were back to normal conditions and after 17 hours of being in the car made it home safe and sound!

It's insane to thing that this was all in one day. Hooray for adventures :) What trips have you gone on lately?
